A dependency free, fully restylable system of non modal floating windows for React apps, extracted from Documinter.
react-pop-a-window is a system of non modal floating windows for React: draggable, resizable panels that hold a tool's full interface while the page behind them stays completely live. No backdrop, no focus trap, no outside click to close, that non modality is the whole point. It carries zero runtime dependencies and styles itself entirely through CSS custom properties.
It came out of Documinter. I had built a floating, draggable window system in there, and once it worked well it was obviously something I would want again elsewhere. So instead of copying it from project to project, I pulled the logic out and made it a proper standalone package.
The library comes apart into layers, each usable without the one above it: a shell that handles the window chrome, a hook beneath it that owns the drag and resize physics through Pointer Events, a helper that places a window next to whatever opened it, and optional pieces that coordinate which windows are open or confine them to a container. It stays fully controlled and dependency free, and every visual knob is a CSS custom property with a ready made dark preset, so it slots into any React app and takes on its look.
