A vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript engine that turns a single JSON file into a full choose your own adventure game.
Corridor Engine is a choose your own adventure engine written in fully vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You hand it a single JSON file holding all the raw data for a story, and it plays that story back to the reader, with branching paths, images, narration, and multiple choices.
Underneath, it works through branching paths and a flag system that remembers the choices a player has made, so the story can respond to what they have done. For something that looks simple from the outside, getting all of that running with no library at all was surprisingly involved.
It turned out far more complex than a no dependency project has any right to be, and I keep it around as proof that you can build something genuinely intricate with nothing but the fundamentals.
